Crown your day visiting the magnificent Accademia Gallery, home to one of the world’s most famous artworks: Michelangelo’s David, a masterpiece of Renaissance sculpture. Access the museum easily with priority skip-the-line tickets, and discover the inspiring David, Michelangelo’s magnum opus. Sculpted in marble between 1501 and 1504, the statue came to symbolize the defense of civil liberties embodied in the Republic of Florence, an independent city-state threatened on all sides by more powerful rival states and by the hegemony of the Medici family. Originally placed beside Palazzo Vecchio, the city town hall, the statue was transferred to the Accademia from Piazza della Signoria in 1873.
