Crown your day visiting the magnificent Accademia Gallery, home to one of the world’s most famous artworks: Michelangelo’s David, a masterpiece of Renaissance sculpture. Access the museum easily with priority skip-the-line tickets, and discover the inspiring David, Michelangelo’s magnum opus. Sculpted in marble between 1501 and 1504, the statue came to symbolize the defense of civil liberties embodied in the Republic of Florence, an independent city-state threatened on all sides by more powerful rival states and by the hegemony of the Medici family. Originally placed beside Palazzo Vecchio, the city town hall, the statue was transferred to the Accademia from Piazza della Signoria in 1873.
Follow your guide in a journey through the Renaissance, uncover the history and artistic value of David, and enjoy admiring Michelangelo’s famous unfinished statues: the Prisoners, St. Matthew and the Pietà. Time permitting see some of the other remarkable artwork on display, among which 13th to 16th century religious paintings, 19th century plaster sculptures and a unique collection of antique musical instruments from the Cherubini Conservatory.
This is a COMBO tour, with two different meeting points and a break between the activities.
