Experience the thrill of a real, breathtaking journey into antiquity! Visiting Ancient Rome’s main historical landmarks, means exploring the origins and soul of Rome, and being able to actually imagine what life was like 2000 years ago!
Perfect for discerning travellers interested in history, families with children of all ages and groups of friends our Private Ancient Rome Tour leads you through labyrinths of columns and into ancient temples to discover the history, legends and daily behaviour of the men and women who populated the world’s most prestigious, and long-lasting, empire.
Meet your private guide, a knowledgeable and charismatic pro, and set off for a mythical day! Start by visiting the Colosseum, also called Anfiteatro Flavio, i.e. Flavian Amphitheatre, a giant amphitheatre built in Rome during the Flavian empire. Erected between 70 and 72 BC, under the reign of Vespasian it lies on what used to be part of the grounds of Nero’s Golden House. At that time there was an artificial lake here, which was drained to build the Colosseum.
Follow your guide inside the Colosseum: access will be easy and hassle-free thanks to exclusive priority entrance tickets from underneath the main tears!
Once inside learn all about this amazing theatre’s features, first and foremost that unlike most other ancient amphitheatres - which used to be built along some sort of hillside to be sure they could stand up! - the Colosseum is a freestanding structure where stone and concrete are held together by a complex system of vaults...amazing ancient architecture!!!
After the classic visit inside the Colosseum, it will be time to take an authentic insider’s view of its majestic architecture following your small group tour guide along the tiers, learn about the animals and gladiators. Get to know the details of its enthralling brutal history: what mainly excited the crowds were the fights between gladiators, frequently slaves, criminals or prisoners of war fighting for rich prizes or their freedom.
After the visit follow your guide to the Roman Forum, and get ready to be surprised. Walking through this extensive park made of columns and ruins, your guide will be able to show you through that ancient fascinating world, the social, political and commercial life of the Roman empire. Among the other sights you will certainly enjoy seeing Titus’ arch, the temple of Saturn, Vespasian and Antoninus Pius, temples, basilicas and, above all, the public spaces which will lead you straight into the daily life and customs of 2000 years ago. As a perfect crescendo end to a fabulous tour walk up to the Palatine, said to be where legendary Romulus decided to build his Palace.
