What is a Vespa?
The Vespa is Italy's most iconic motor scooter, manufactured by Piaggio and first produced in 1946. The name means 'wasp' in Italian, a reference to the scooter's distinctive buzzing engine sound. The Vespa became a symbol of Italian style, freedom, and post-war reconstruction, immortalized in films such as Roman Holiday. Today, riding a Vespa through the Tuscan countryside is one of the most romantic and exhilarating things to do in Florence Italy — a true bucket-list experience offered exclusively by Florencetown.
What does the Tuscany by Vespa Tour include?
The Tuscany by Vespa Tour with Florencetown includes a Vespa scooter rental, a professional local guide on Vespa, a scenic route through the Chianti wine country, a stop at a traditional Tuscan winery for a wine and olive oil tasting, and a typical Tuscan lunch. You'll ride through cypress-lined roads, medieval villages, and rolling vineyards — experiencing Tuscany in the most thrilling and authentic way possible. It's widely considered one of the best Vespa tours in Florence and Tuscany, combining adventure, culture, food, and wine in a single memorable day.
How long is the Tuscany by Vespa tour?
The Tuscany by Vespa Tour lasts a full day — approximately 6 to 7 hours — departing from Florence in the morning and returning in the late afternoon. This gives you ample time to explore the Chianti countryside, enjoy a wine tasting, savor a Tuscan lunch, and make the most of the scenic riding experience. It's one of the most complete and satisfying Vespa tours in Florence Italy, combining the best of Tuscany's landscape, gastronomy, and wine culture.
Do I need a special license to ride a Vespa on this tour in Italy?
For the Florencetown Vespa tour in Tuscany, you need a valid driving license (car or motorcycle). In Italy, a standard car (category B) driving license is sufficient to ride a 125cc scooter for riders aged 21 and over. Riders under 21 may need an A1 motorcycle license. Passengers do not require a license. If you are not comfortable riding solo, you can also join as a passenger on a guide's Vespa. Please contact Florencetown for clarification based on your age and license type before booking.
Is the Tuscany by Vespa ride suitable for beginners or first-time riders?
The Tuscany by Vespa tour is suitable for riders with at least basic experience on a scooter or motorbike. Complete beginners with no riding experience are not recommended to join, as the tour takes place on rural roads and requires a minimum level of bike-handling confidence. However, if you're a quick learner with experience cycling or riding motorbikes, a brief practice session at the start of the tour can help you get comfortable. Guests who are not confident riders are warmly welcome as passengers. Contact Florencetown to discuss your experience level before booking.
